At Monarch-Therapies we offer in person services at our West County location and telehealth services for Missouri, and Illinois residents. We accept most insurances and EAP and also offer low fee for services costs and low-cost solutions through our provisional licensing program, which is supervised by the owner, Kathryn Schormann. Call, text or email to schedule an appointment.
Kathryn also offers specialty intensive services curated for your specific needs focusing on trauma recovery. See below for more information.
At Monarch Therapies, individual therapy is tailored to the person—not a diagnosis. Many clients come to us because something feels off, overwhelming, or stuck, even if they can’t yet name it. You do not need to fit into a specific category to begin therapy.
While insurance requires diagnostic codes for billing, we approach therapy in a way that prioritizes the whole person—not just a diagnosis.
We support adults, adolescents, and children navigating a wide range of concerns, including:
Trauma Informed Care (Without the Labels)
Some clients come to therapy knowing they’ve experienced trauma. Others simply notice heightened reactions, emotional sensitivity, hypervigilance, or difficulty feeling safe or settled—especially after accidents, losses, or major life disruptions.
Our clinicians work from a trauma-informed, nervous-system-aware approach, helping clients gently process experiences that continue to show up in the body, emotions, or thought patterns—without forcing labels or retelling details before you’re ready.
How We Work
Therapy is collaborative and paced to your needs. We integrate evidence-based and experiential approaches to help clients:
Insurance & Self-Pay Options
We offer both insurance-based and self-pay therapy services. Fees vary by session type and length, and insurance coverage depends on your specific plan. Our team works to clarify financial responsibility prior to your first session whenever possible.
A note about insurance:
When therapy is billed to insurance, a mental health diagnosis is required by insurance companies for reimbursement purposes. This diagnosis is used for billing and documentation and does not define you or limit the focus of your therapy. Treatment is always guided by your goals, lived experience, and what is most supportive for you.
If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you—or what you’d even work on—that’s okay. Many clients begin therapy simply wanting support, clarity, or a place to breathe and be understood.
Therapy works best when awareness is paired with intention and support.
Who Individual Therapy Tends to Work Best for
Individual therapy at Monarch Therapies is often a good fit for people who:
Individual therapy works best when clients are open to participation, reflection, and trying new approaches at a pace that feels supportive.
You don’t need to be in crisis or have everything figured out to begin. Willingness to reflect and engage in the process matters more than having a specific “problem.”
Relationships can be deeply meaningful—and also challenging at times. Many couples and individuals seek relationship counseling not because something is “wrong,” but because they want better communication, deeper understanding, or support navigating change.
At Monarch Therapies, relationship and couples counseling focuses on patterns rather than blame. We help partners slow things down, understand emotional and nervous system responses, and build healthier ways of relating to one another.
We work with individuals and couples experiencing:
A Supportive, Trauma-Informed Approach
Relationship challenges are often shaped by past experiences, stress, and learned patterns—both individual and relational. Our clinicians take a trauma-informed, nervous-system-aware approach, helping clients understand how reactions and dynamics develop, without assigning fault or forcing disclosure. We utilize a combination of theories including Gottman, Imago, IFS and somatic therapies.
Therapy is paced collaboratively and may include individual sessions, joint sessions, or a combination—based on what best supports your goals.
Insurance & Self-Pay Options
Insurance coverage for relationship or couples counseling varies by plan. Some plans allow relationship-focused therapy when there is an identified client and diagnosis; others do not. Self-pay options are also available, and fees vary by session type and length.
If you’re unsure whether relationship counseling is right for you—or whether to come in individually or as a couple—we’re happy to help you explore your options.
Counseling can be a space to reconnect, reset, and move forward with clarity.
Who We Work Best With
Relationship and couples counseling at Monarch Therapies tends to be a good fit for individuals and partners who:
Relationship counseling works best when all participants are willing to engage respectfully and take responsibility for their part in the process.
You do not need to have everything figured out before starting. Curiosity, willingness, and openness to the process matter more than being “ready” or “perfect.”

Can years of painful lived trauma be relieved in one day? Long-term PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and other mental health issues can often require years of treatment and bring up painful memories. ART-trained therapists see results in their patients in as little as one to five sessions. Clients can process painful memories without having to share the details!
Through reprogramming and visualizations, ART changes the makeup of negative images and how they are stored in the brain.
The effectiveness of ART has been shown in numerous peer studies. Therapists who use ART see full caseloads due to continuous positive feedback from clients and word-of-mouth referrals!
ART implements eye movements to help clients become desensitized to recurring negative emotions, images, or memories.
With guided practice, our therapist helps rewrite this script or looped pattern.
Clients are guided through bilateral eye movements to process traumatic events which are looked at as "scenes" that the client prepares beforehand. Through the use of bilateral eye movement, emotion focused sensory integration, and positive reframing the client and therapist work to resolve the distressing images and triggering sensations. Reduction or elimination of triggering sensations and reactions can be achieved in 1-5 ART sessions.
Half day or full day sessions available - Intensives allow a person to achieve results similar to spending months in weekly therapy in only 1-2 days.
